Group latches are held while ever any record level lock is held in this group.
This is an "informational" lock, a quick way to determine whether exclusive
access can be had to the group. It also keeps track of any waiters, from which
the deadlock daemon can build lock waiter tables.

Group read and group write locks are held only while data are actually in
transition between disk and memory (or vice versa). There are two other kinds
of group latch, used only by UniVerse SQL.

Enrol on the next UniVerse Theory and Practice (UV910) - formerly UniVerse
Internals - class to get the whole story!
