Are you sure the message is coming from UniVerse itself? I suspect this is coming from the application, which may only support those two terminal types. By default, UniVerse will support many more terminal types than those two. Try logging into the UV account, or anyplace that doesn't run through the application code - I suspect you won't have any problems at all with ansi.
