I'm not a UD user, at least for quite a while, but isn't there a UD file
type where the ID is always stored separately from the data, so that a
select based soley on id-dependent criteria alone would be very fast
because the actual data isn't read.
If I'm right & if that's what you're using, I think you need to separate
out not just the selection, but also the reading & building of the
arrays and only start the timing test on the extractions.
Or maybe that's what you meant.
