>I was wonderin' what you meant! Sequential access *does* still have it's place in today's random access heavy world.
Man, I really should have had my coffee before responding to Mark today. The only thing worse than responding in haste is responding inaccurately, and even with best intents for that mistake I am truly sorry. I completely agree, sequential access has a very prominent place in today's random access world. I'm amazed at the crazy things people do to try to get around sequential access like magnificently dimensioned arrays, benchmarking <-1> against INSERT(..), etc., when really if the task is to export an amount of data in some kind of format, sequential files are simply the best first choice. When someone says "oh, I'll never output that MUCH data", a big red flag goes up in my mind. Certainly we can code for what we anticipate today, but if we do not anticipate for what will happen six months from now, the end result will not be very complimentary. -Kevin [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.PrecisOnline.com ** Check out scheduled Connect! training courses at http://www.PrecisOnline.com/train.html. ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
