Man, I really should have had my coffee before responding to Mark
today.  The only thing worse than responding in haste is responding
inaccurately, and even with best intents for that mistake I am truly
sorry.

I completely agree, sequential access has a very prominent place in
today's random access world.  I'm amazed at the crazy things people do
to try to get around sequential access like magnificently dimensioned
arrays, benchmarking <-1> against INSERT(..), etc., when really if the
task is to export an amount of data in some kind of format, sequential
files are simply the best first choice.

When someone says "oh, I'll never output that MUCH data", a big red
flag goes up in my mind.  Certainly we can code for what we anticipate
today, but if we do not anticipate for what will happen six months
from now, the end result will not be very complimentary.
