And look for GOTO where RETURN should have been used to exit a gosub, thus goofing up the return stack, which grows and grows and grows.
Brian's SYSTEM(9001) & PORT.STATUS LAYER.STACK are good debug suggestions. I haven't seen this error associated with too many files being open, but PORT.STATUS also has a FILEMAP & MFILE.HIST options. Note to those unfamiliar with PORT.STATUS: All 3 of these options only(?) work when you limit the report via the PID keyword.
