its a hashed file, at one time Charlie Noah showed me how to do this but sadly its been years and at the time I did not have a use for it .......

I am almost positive there is a way, I just need to find it

thanks for responding and not offense taken, I should apologize for not providing more details

as to why, well I am working on a old old system (application wise) that for some reason "builds" a VOC entry of what to run and then "builds" procs to run it. the problem I am having is tracing through the code to see if it "builds" a VOC entry that contains a program that shold be running. To make matter worse it uses the port as part of the key but does not delete old records so I end up with

NIGHT-JOBS140
NIGHT-JOBS141
NIGHT-JOBS142
etc, etc, etc

I suppose I could ask the operators what port the ran the nightly process from to get the port but I was thinking there has to be a better way and right now I do not know the nightly process to well enough to modify it (to write out something that would tell me) (its very critical to my company and changes to critical working processes are frowned up, due to previous bad programmers)

I am hoping to get things changed but its slow and I have to build confidence first

anyway thanks
