This could be happening because there is an error on the file or on one of the associated indices. We had that error a couple of times. To fix, we either rebuilt the indices or ran fixtool (at unix) to check if the file needs to be fixed. We also had that error if there is something wrong with the key (eg control character or @VM, @SM)
