Linux box with a 3gig xeon in it - 

Example from last night 
3.2 gig file - zips to 153 meg in 39.6 seconds, ftp then took  50 seconds
ish

Anyway the point i was making is i last used a terminal emulator to transfer
files in about 96, i did not think people still used them in that manner,
you learn something every day ...
