Dave:
I replaced a Linux sftp server with WinSSHD, we finally got rid of the
last of our Linux servers. I stumbled around getting it configured to
use "virtual" users defined within WinSSH only (not Windows). I got
yelled at a bit by the developers because I was sooooooo stupid! :-)
But I finally got it set up right. It has multiple "root" directories
for our clients and restricts their access to those directories only.
I'm able to define a Windows "shared" directory which allows our clients
to log in, and upload a file to this shared directory; which actually
resides on our UD server.
Installation is pretty much like any Windows application. The trick is
to figure out how to configure it. In the link I gave you, look at the
left side of the page and you'll see lots of documentation for WinSSHD;
e.g. Users guide, printable docs, usage FAQ, Securing WinSSHD, WinSSHD
for SFTP, etc. We use the product strictly for SFTP.
I'd recommend putting SFTP on a separate server. It's bad news to have
sftp running on the same server as your dbms. By all means, keep that
puppy separate.
HTH,
Bill

...Bill, Jeff and Tom,
Thank you.
...Bill,
Are you aware of any technical documentation that describes the
procedures for installing WinSSHD, either on the mv database server or
on some gateway in the mv database server LAN, and connecting Accuterm
to it for a telnet-like connection?
I'd like to install it and try it out for one of our customers.
Thanks,
Dave
