As suggested by Marc, use "monochrome colors" in the color settings. 
This will set all of the standard attribute to shades of 
black/gray/white, but if an application uses explicit 
foreground/backgroun colors, these are still available. I think the 
'ls' highlights directory files using something like "bold + light 
blue background". In the default color scheme for AccuTerm 2K2, bold 
uses light blue background with cyan foreground. So the combination 
used by 'ls' for directories is effectively invisible.
