Have a look at the readme file for the version you have it's mentioned there. It is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Informix > UniVerse > CurrentVersion Then you will probably need to created a new DWORD value with the name UseShortUserNames. But it does mean you can no longer use the mesage command to all users in the local domain because that name is no longer there.
