Intelligent and integrated systems in Medicine and Biology (Chair: Victor Maojo, Polytechnical University of Madrid) Special session at KES'2002=20 Sixth International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent=20 Information & Engineering Systems=20 16, 17 & 18 September 2002=20 Podere d'Ombriano, Crema, Italy http://www.brighton.ac.uk/kes/kes2002/ The aim of this session is to give scholars and professionals of Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics the opportunity to gather, communicate and exchange research ideas and results. During the last few years a new interest has appeared to stimulate a synergy between both disciplines, combining theories, methods and applications. Institutions such as the European Commission and US private and public organizations have launched different initiatives to stimulate such interaction. In this session, authors are encouraged to submit papers dealing with all aspects of intelligent information and knowledge processing, analysis, and management in biomedicine. Particularly, methods or applications that could be common or reused in both Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): Intelligent decision-making in medicine and genetics Data mining in biomedical research (e.g., clinical and genomic databases) Integrated computer systems in biomedicine Intelligent systems in medical and genetic education and research Intelligent modelling in biomedicine Internet-based methods for exchange of information among heterogeneous medical and genetic sources Submissions Papers should be submitted for review in electronic format (preferably in Word, PDF or PostScript) to the Chair ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), using the subject-line "KES'2002 Special Session". Authors are encouraged to contact the chair expressing their intention to submit a paper. Papers must be formatted as detailed in IOS Instructions for the Preparation of a Camera-Ready Manuscript (see the KES 2002 homepage for details). The maximum length of papers is five pages (when prepared according to the IOS instructions). Longer papers will be subject to an additional page charge. Please note that final versions of accepted papers must be submitted in hard copy. All papers must be presented by one of the authors, who must pay the registration fee. The session papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings (IOS Press, Amsterdam, the Netherlands). Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in the KES Journal (International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems). Important Dates Submission deadline: April 30, 2002 (Note: this deadline is different to general submissions to KES2002) Notification of acceptance: May 10-13, 2002 Deadline for camera-ready papers: June 1, 2002 Session Chair Victor Maojo Director, Medical Informatics Group Artificial Intelligence Laboratory School of Computer Science Universidad Politecnica de Madrid Boadilla del Monte 28660 Madrid Spain email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The KES conference includes other sessions and activities that could be of interest for all participants. Some of those sessions will be also devoted to0 Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics topics. Additional information for the KES conference KES2002 forms a truly international forum for the presentation of recent work and the exchange of ideas on Intelligent Systems and Techniques, Applications of Intelligent Techniques and related areas including Information Technology and the Internet.
