ICML 2011 Workshop on Combining Learning Strategies to Reduce Label Cost
https://sites.google.com/site/comblearn

Call for Papers:
We invite submissions of high-quality, original, and unpublished research
papers on topics in the following areas (and/or principled hybrids of these
areas):

   * Active Learning = supervised + oracle queries
   * Semi-supervised Learning = supervised + unlabeled data
   * Multitask & Transfer Learning = supervised + data from related task(s)
   * Domain Adaptation = supervised + data from source domain(s)
   * Multiview Learning = supervised + alternative data views
   * Learning in a Bandit Setting = supervised + limited feedback
   * Multiple-Instance Learning = supervised + relaxed label granularity
   * Learning with Expert Knowledge = supervised + side information
   * Weakly Labeled Data = supervised + free (possibly inaccurate) labels
   * Human Computation and Crowd-sourcing = supervised + free/inexpensive
annotators
   * Learning on a Budget = supervised + misc. cost constraints

Special emphasis will be given to papers exploring novel combinations of
these (i.e., two or more) approaches. There are many naive ways to combine
some of these ideas, however, the goal of our workshop is to go beyond
this and understand the assumptions made in these individual learning
settings, and use this understanding to create combined methods that are
more than "the sum of their parts."

Note: We also encourage submissions that propose novel methods under one
of the above mentioned paradigms, but also explore connections to the
other paradigms, which may potentially lead to ways of combining them.
This workshop is a success if it leads to non-trivial cross pollination
between researchers and ideas in these different fields, and encourage
forward-thinking and open-minded researchers from any of these areas to
submit.

The papers should be 4-6 pages in the ICML format. In addition, we also
invite position papers of up to 2 pages that present compelling new ideas
related to the workshop theme. The papers submission deadline is April 29,
2011 (11:59PM PST). Please email your submissions to [email protected].
Submissions need not be anonymous.

Accepted papers will be presented as an oral presentation, or as posters
in a spotlight+poster session.
