Mälardalen Real-Time Research Centre (MRTC)
Mälardalen University, Sweden

Dear colleague,

MRTC is offering two positions in Computer Science:
1) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position, specializing in Multi-Core Real-Time
Systems
2) PhD Student Position, specializing in Many-Core Real-Time Systems

MRTC is Sweden's largest and most prominent environment for embedded and
real-time systems research. Located at Mälardalen University, Västerås, from
its inception in 1999, MRTC has grown from one professor, seven senior
researchers, and some 15 PhD students to its current size with 10 research
groups, including 10 full professors, 5 adjoint and guest professors, 20
additional senior researchers, and some 50 PhD students. Despite its size, MRTC
has a focused research agenda targeting various aspects of real-time systems
and embedded software development. MRTC is a nontraditional academic research
unit with a unique fusion of industrial relevance and academic excellence.

The two open positions are located in the CORE research group at MRTC:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is for 1 year full time, with the
possibility of extending the position with one more year. A Swedish PhD Student
position is 4 years full time (often arranged 5 years at 80% of research and
20% of department duties). Both positions are with good salary and excellent
conditions to conduct research. For more information about these positions,
please contact Thomas Nolte ([email protected]).

To apply, please visit "Job Opportunities" (positions 37/13, and 38/13) at
www.mdh.se
(direct link: http://www.mdh.se/hogskolan/jobb)

Application deadline for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is April 30,
and application deadline for the PhD Student position is March 31, 2013.

Best regards,
Thomas Nolte

Position 1 (ref number 37/13)

Title: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Computer Science, specializing in
Multi-Core Real-Time Systems

We are offering a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position in the area of
multi-core real-time systems, strengthening the Complex Real-time Embedded
Systems (CORE) research group at MDH with one additional senior researcher. The
CORE research group consists today (February 2013) of 7 PhD students and 3
senior researchers.

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position is intended for research and
development of new methods, techniques and tools with respect to real-time,
predictability and performance on multi-core platforms. The area of research
and development within this position will be guided by the current portfolio of
CORE research projects.

Abstract: The performance offered by multi-core platforms has over the past
decade attracted significant attention in multiprocessor embedded software
analysis and runtime policies, protocols and techniques. Since multi-core
platforms are becoming the de-facto processors available on the market, where
traditional single-cores are becoming less available, industry must cope with a
potential migration towards multi-core platforms. To align academic research
with industrial requirements and to facilitate migration of systems from
single-processor platforms to multi-core platforms, the research community
together with industry has to cope with multiple aspects that contribute to the
overall performance and correctness achieved by multi-core solutions. New
techniques, methods and tools are sought to be developed to achieve this goal.

Position 2 (ref number 38/13)

Title: PhD Student in Computer Science, specializing in Many-Core Real-Time
Systems

-------------------------------------------------------------------

We are offering a PhD student position in the area of many-core real time
systems. The position is within the Complex Real-time Embedded Systems (CORE)
research group at MDH. The PhD student position is intended for research and
development of new methods, techniques and tools with respect to real-time,
predictability and performance on many-core platforms.

Abstract: Future information technology will be based on many-core processors.
For this technology to unfold its power and transform our daily lives, it must
include real-time functionalities. For real-time functionalities, it is
indispensable to reliably predict whether a given task will be computed in time
or not. Predictability for many-core computing is a relatively new research
field, where mapping of applications (static/dynamic), operating systems
(centralized, distributed, scheduling, allocation, memory management, etc.),
and network on chips (routing, arbitration, switches) pose entirely new
challenges with respect to predictability. This PhD student position will
research and develop new techniques to achieve predictable many-core solutions
for the real-time systems of tomorrow.
