If you are building a product where your key constituents are rural, and keep
in mind this product was conceived after the Motorola split, the fact that you
were counting on reflector dishes from day one means that the dish was an
afterthought, an add on versus something like the Nanobridge or the
Nano/Powerbeam, which makes no sense to me. It was a reactive design instead
of building something from day 1 that was adaptable with the original
mechanical architecture. My feelings towards reflector dishes is that they are
a patch for the original design not meeting design specs that were really
needed for the target market. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see they have
something today but it took 3 years and compared to the new Nano/PowerBeams,
it’s a kludge that takes longer to assemble. The quality control and
engineering is far superior on the radio itself but the mechanicals are weak
and labor intensive.

I’m probably one of the few guys that uses Nanostation 5M Locos as my primary
radios because of my planned migration to 802.11ac but I’m sure overseas, it’s
used a lot more. My only guess is that since the U.S. is only 20% of the
worldwide market or less, that product fit the world market better.

You don't know how long it was in process. They may have just delayed
announcement until they expected it to be almost done.

You know what I find funny is that everybody blames Ubiquiti and nobody blames
the inept and inefficient government agency that is slowing up this process.
They can give billions of dollars to the cell phone and telephone carriers and
they can’t spend a couple million bucks to get another certification lab in
place so manufacturers aren’t screwed for 6 months waiting to get a piece of
paper that says they can legally sell their product? How much money is the
industry losing because of these delays. T-Tom Wheeler needs to quit figuring
out how to help his future multi-billion dollar consulting buddies and fix this
problem.
