Hi.

You might want to consider subscribing to some mailing lists.  Since you
are running Edgy, edgy-changes would be a good start.  That way, you
will know when packages in Edgy are updated.
You might also consider ubuntu-announce and ubuntu-security-announce.

I normally run apt-get update and then apt-get -u dist-upgrade,
although, apt-get upgrade is probably enough.  Dist-upgrade can remove
and install new packages, while upgrade will only upgrade existing
packages.  The -u in the dist-upgrade command tells apt-get to wait for
me to agree to what it is going to do before doing it.
