For non-LTS releases, you can only upgrade to the next release. So if you install on 8.10 now, you can't skip 9.04 and go straight to 9.10. As far as my experience has gone, Ubuntu upgrades have been so successful for me that upgrading every 6 months is only a minor inconvenience. Paul
