Yes, the bug still exists as the new version of Network manager applet that includes the fix has *not* been backported to Ubuntu.
I've filed a backport request in intrepid backports two months ago, but nothing has happened since. The request is located in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317514 So everything needed to fix the issue would be someone to kindly do the backport. P.S.
