Public bug reported: libmtp8 in jaunty is old (0.3.0 - 2008-06-23).
libmtp8 in karmic is alot more recent (0.3.7) and as such supports (alot) more devices that could be of benefit to users of the jaunty desktop. I've performed a no source change backport using pbuilder which works for me so I've gone ahead and pushed the package for testing to my PPA (I'm afraid it doesn't have the launchpad bug number in the changelog). Scanning through the downloads page upstream (http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/download.php) there doesn't appear to be any notes to downstream about any incompatible changes that have been introduced (infact for the last incompatible change they bumped from 7 to 8). My Use Case:- Before upgrade (0.3.0) my sandisk sansa clip didn't function under Linux in MTP mode, it wouldn't appear in banshee and mtpfs locked up quite badly. Post upgrade (0.3.7) the sansa clip was detected by banshee and was listed in the UI. I will continue to do further testing of the package and report back - it would also be good to get some other testing feedback. ** Affects: jaunty-backports Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- Please backport libmtp8 from karmic to jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Backporters, which is the registrant for Jaunty Jackalope Backports. -- ubuntu-backports mailing list ubuntu-backports@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-backports
