I've personally tested this and can confirm that this backport will fix the issue detailed in bug 478487.

The reason behind this backport is because usbmount 0.0.17, which is currently in Karmic tries to get the volumen id with /lib/udev/vol_id and it is not present anymore. This problem has been fixed and we have the fix in - lucid. + lucid. This is also a new upstream release that contains improvements + and fixes.
