Does Amarok or Dragon player do use GStreamer Plugins? If so, then
unstalling VLC wouldn't help it out.

But interestingly I found that, the Gstreamer Plugins do install the same
codecs as VLC or MPlayer does. But again, if Amarok or Dragon player use
GStreamer and couldn't find it, it cannot reach the main codec libs and
cannot play the media file. Same thing happenes with Totem in Ubuntu.

As I am not a KDE user, its hard ti find a solution for Kubuntu. I am sorry.
Why not you do some reseach and find a way?
