Public bug reported:

When copying text with non-ASCII characters (Czech diacritics) from a Windows
RDP session in Remmina and pasting into Google Chrome running as a native
Wayland client, the non-ASCII characters are replaced by the literal text
\Uffffffff, and parts of the string are lost.
Example, copied in the remote session: Dohadné účty aktivní - Dobrovolníci
2026/27
Pasted into Chrome: Dohadn\Uffffffff\Uffffffff aktivn\Uffffffff
Dobrovoln\Uffffffff 2026/27
The corruption is already present in the Wayland clipboard. Inspecting it with
wl-paste after copying Bankovním převodem in the remote session:

      UTF8_STRING and text/plain;charset=utf-8 contain correct UTF-8.

TEXT contains the literal ASCII text \Uffffffff, and characters after
each non-ASCII character are swallowed.

      text/plain returns empty data.

Native-Wayland Chrome apparently reads the broken TEXT/text/plain target.
Possible cause (unverified): the remote text (Czech Windows, probably CP1250)
is passed to GTK without conversion to UTF-8. Single bytes like 0xED (í) and
0xF8 (ř) are invalid UTF-8, which GLib would turn into \Uffffffff and skip
following bytes.
Pasting the same clipboard works correctly in:

gedit / text editor, LibreOffice, Firefox

      Chrome started with --ozone-platform=x11 (XWayland)

a session opened with xfreerdp3 (instead of Remmina)

Forcing Remmina onto X11 with GDK_BACKEND=x11 remmina does not change the
result.
Steps to reproduce:

Ubuntu 24.04 Wayland session, connect to a Windows host with Remmina
(RDP, clipboard sync on).

In the remote session, copy text containing Czech diacritics (e.g.
Bankovním převodem).

Paste into Chrome (native Wayland, e.g. into the address bar or any text
field).
