Public bug reported: Ubuntu 24.04, X11 session. gnome-shell 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.15, mutter 46.2-1ubuntu0.24.04.16, gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-tiling-assistant 46-1ubuntu1.1.
Steps: 1. Start dragging a window toward a half-screen tiling snap. 2. While the drag is still in progress, the application closes that window. 3. Release the mouse. Result: gnome-shell aborts (SIGABRT) and the X11 session ends; all open applications are lost. libmutter:ERROR:../src/core/window.c:5532:meta_window_get_workspaces: code should not be reached JS stack at the crash: #0 [email protected]/src/extension/tilingWindowManager.js:157 #1 [email protected]/src/extension/moveHandler.js:236 #2 [email protected]/src/extension/moveHandler.js:205 Likely cause: the 'grab-op-end' handler (moveHandler.js:203) calls _onMoveFinished(window) and then Twm.tile() without checking whether the window was unmanaged during the drag. get_work_area_for_monitor() then reaches meta_window_get_workspaces() on a window with no workspace, which hits g_assert_not_reached(). Expected: the drag ends without tiling and gnome-shell keeps running. Happened twice (2026-10-09 and 2026-10-15), same stack both times. The crash was also sent to errors.ubuntu.com through apport.
