Public bug reported:
High/Random frame drop when playing video on Wayland:
1. Frame drop count seems to be related to number of open tabs and
installed addons
2. Disabling "widget.wayland.vsync.enabled" significantly reduces the
dropped frame count on youtube player "stats for nerds" but the
actual/visual frame drop remains the same. On some systems (probably
newer/faster) actual/visual frame drop is less noticeable
3. Running with "env GDK_BACKEND=x11" or on X11 session resolves the
issue
4. Testing was done with default youtube codec "VP9". The test system
doesn't have VP9 hardware decoder
5. Both Snap and Mozilla .deb are affected
6. Tried various other solutions and configurations but nothing helped
7. Tried fresh firefox and OS user profiles
8. Video resolution makes no difference
Test system:
---
Firefox version 156.x -> 158.x
Operating System: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.6
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i7-6560U
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Intel® Iris® Graphics 540
** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
