Public bug reported:
Package: linux (Ubuntu 26.10, linux-image-7.3.0-9-generic 7.3.0-9.9;
also seen on Ubuntu 26.04 with 7.0.0-3x)
Hardware: Dell XPS 13 9350 (Lunar Lake, IPU7 ov02c10), BIOS 1.22.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
intel-ipu7 (drivers/staging/media/ipu7) loads its firmware during early
boot:
intel-ipu7 0000:00:05.0: firmware cpd file: intel/ipu/ipu7_fw.bin
but none of the IPU7 modules declare it with MODULE_FIRMWARE():
$ modinfo -F firmware intel_ipu7 (empty)
$ modinfo -F firmware intel_ipu7_isys (empty)
$ modinfo -F firmware intel_ipu7_psys (empty)
ipu7_fw.bin is therefore left out of the initramfs. The driver then
loads before the real root filesystem is mounted, can't find its
firmware, and the camera doesn't work.
Steps to reproduce
------------------
1. Stock Ubuntu with dracut on an IPU7 laptop (e.g. Dell XPS 13 9350).
2. `modinfo -F firmware intel_ipu7` → nothing.
3. `sudo lsinitrd | grep ipu7_fw` → the firmware is not in the initramfs.
4. The camera doesn't work after boot.
Expected behaviour
-------------------
The firmware should be included in the initramfs, so that the camera module
works after boot.
