Dell Latitude 7450 – OV02E10 camera works on 7.0.0-30 but fails on
7.0.0-38 (Ubuntu 26.04.1)

I can reproduce a webcam failure on my Dell Latitude 7450 running Ubuntu
26.04.1 LTS (Resolute).
After investigating the issue, I confirmed that the built-in webcam works
correctly with kernel 7.0.0-30-generic but fails with kernel 7.0.0-38-generic.
Both kernels were tested on the same laptop.

Hardware information
Laptop: Dell Latitude 7450
Processor: Intel Core Ultra 7 165U
Ubuntu: 26.04.1 LTS (Resolute)
BIOS: 1.26.0 (07/27/2026)

Camera sensor: OmniVision OV02E10
ACPI sensor ID: OVTI02E1:00
Camera interface: Intel IPU6
USBIO bridge: 2ac1:20c9 (SLS Lattice AI USB 2.0)
GPIO ACPI ID: INTC10D1:00
I2C ACPI ID: INTC10D2

Working configuration
Kernel: 7.0.0-30-generic
Result: Webcam works correctly

I initially tested Ubuntu 26.04.1 from a Live USB, where the webcam worked.
The Live USB was running kernel 7.0.0-30-generic.
I subsequently installed the same kernel on my existing Ubuntu installation and
booted into it.
The built-in webcam now works correctly on my installed Ubuntu system when
running kernel 7.0.0-30.
The working kernel uses the in-tree USBIO modules:
kernel/drivers/usb/misc/usbio.ko.zst
kernel/drivers/gpio/gpio-usbio.ko.zst
kernel/drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-usbio.ko.zst

The following camera-related modules were loaded in the working Live USB
environment:
intel_ipu6
intel_ipu6_isys
ov02e10
gpio_usbio
i2c_usbio
usbio
intel_skl_int3472_discrete

Failing configuration
Kernel: 7.0.0-38-generic
Result: Webcam does not work

Initially, the Intel IPU6 driver failed because the firmware file was missing:
intel/ipu/ipu6epmtl_fw.bin

Installing linux-firmware-intel-graphics resolved that firmware-loading failure.
However, the webcam remained nonfunctional.
The system also initially loaded USBIO modules from:
/lib/modules/7.0.0-38-generic/ubuntu/dkms/usbio/

These modules did not contain the INTC10D1 and INTC10D2 ACPI identifiers found
in the in-tree drivers.
This caused repeated errors:
int3472-discrete INT3472:01:
cannot find GPIO chip INTC10D1:00, deferring

int3472-discrete INT3472:0c:
cannot find GPIO chip INTC10D1:00, deferring

I changed the module selection to prioritize the in-tree USBIO drivers.
After rebooting, the GPIO controller was correctly identified:
gpiochip963
INTC10D1:00

The original GPIO lookup errors disappeared.
However, the camera still failed to initialize.
Remaining errors on kernel 7.0.0-38
gpio_usbio.usbio-gpio usbio.usbio-gpio.0:
[Firmware Bug]: GPIO 5 is not in FW pins bitmap

int3472-discrete INT3472:0c:
GPIO type 0x02 unknown; the sensor may not work

ov02e10 i2c-OVTI02E1:00:
failed to check hwcfg: -517

The OV02E10 driver repeatedly returned -517 (EPROBE_DEFER).
Checking the deferred-probe list:
sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/devices_deferred

Returned:
i2c-OVTI02E1:00

The camera sensor remained unbound.
Only a virtual camera device was available:
Intel MIPI Camera (platform:v4l2loopback-000):
    /dev/video0

Additional observations
The working Live USB also initially logged the following messages:
int3472-discrete:
cannot find GPIO chip INTC10D1:00, deferring

gpio_usbio.usbio-gpio:
[Firmware Bug]: GPIO 5 is not in FW pins bitmap

int3472-discrete INT3472:0c:
GPIO type 0x02 unknown; the sensor may not work

Despite these warnings, the camera eventually initialized successfully.
This suggests that the warnings alone do not necessarily prevent camera
functionality.
Expected behavior
The Dell Latitude 7450 built-in webcam should initialize and work correctly on
kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, as it does on 7.0.0-30-generic.
Actual behavior
On kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, the OV02E10 camera sensor remains in deferred-probe
state, and the webcam is unavailable.
Conclusion
There appears to be a kernel-version-dependent regression or driver
compatibility issue affecting the Dell Latitude 7450 IPU6/OV02E10 camera.
The issue is reproducible on my system:
- Kernel 7.0.0-30-generic: Camera works.
- Kernel 7.0.0-38-generic: Camera fails.

The exact cause has not yet been isolated. The installed system also contains
Intel IPU6 DKMS and camera-processing packages, which may interact differently
with the two kernels.
I have retained both kernels for further testing.
I would appreciate guidance on identifying the change between these kernel
versions responsible for the failure and whether a fix can be included in a
future Ubuntu kernel update.
