Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble), typing in the “Connect to Server” address
field of the file chooser unexpectedly activates the search field.

Steps to reproduce:
1. In Brave, open the Save dialog when saving a PDF.
2. Select “Other Locations”.
3. Click the “Enter server address…” field under “Connect to Server”.
4. Start typing a server address, for example beginning with “sftp”.

Expected result:
The address field retains focus and receives the typed characters.

Actual result:
On the first attempt, input goes to the search field at the top of the dialog
instead. Clicking the server address field again allows typing normally.

This consistently affects the first attempt and interrupts saving files
to my NAS. Clicking the address field a second time is a workaround.

Installed versions:
- libgtk-4-1:amd64: 4.14.5+ds-0ubuntu0.10
- libgtk-3-0t64:amd64: 3.24.41-4ubuntu1.3
- xdg-desktop-portal: 1.18.4-1ubuntu2.24.04.3
- xdg-desktop-portal-gnome: 46.2-0ubuntu1
- xdg-desktop-portal-gtk: 1.15.1-1build2
- Brave Browser: 155.1.97.56
- Desktop: Ubuntu GNOME, amd64

Apport diagnostic information is included with this report.

Upstream investigation:
I reported this as [GTK issue
#8483](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/work_items/8483).

The GTK maintainer could not reproduce it with current GTK and pointed
to [commit 9ef20fbf3e9f93e28d54e84731b90a1cd40bcc8e — “Filechooser: Fix
a focus
mishap”](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/commit/9ef20fbf3e9f93e28d54e84731b90a1cd40bcc8e).
That change prevents key events intended for the server entry from being
intercepted to start a search.

After I supplied the installed versions, the maintainer directed me
downstream because GTK 4.14 is no longer supported by the upstream
project.

Please check whether this fix or an equivalent is present in Ubuntu
Noble’s gtk4 package and consider backporting it if applicable.

These are the installed package versions; I have not yet confirmed which
GTK library or portal backend serves the affected dialog. I have not
tested current upstream GTK or verified the fix against Ubuntu’s source
package.
