Looks like this was an update issue. I removed, then reinstalled and got xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (0.14.3+seriouslythistime-0ubuntu3) and it looks good. Maybe this package should replace xorg-driver-synaptics? And maybe that's not a great version name for the package.
