Public bug reported:

Hi, The following little annoyance I've seen on 3 of my computers so far
is that, gnome does not seem to preload icons and other visual data
regarding the desktop before it appears. for instance, when I open up
the Applications menu, then go to Games, the icons take about a quarter
second to appear, then they don't take that long again, however, why
can't gnome merely pre-load the icons before the desktop appears in the
first place, I would think it would only use up a reasonable ammount of
ram, probably only like 5MB tops. Could this possibly be remedied? I've
tried programs like pre-load, pre-link, etc. nothing seems to work... I
mean, over all, the desktop environment would be faster graphics wise.
since it wouldn't rely on the hard drive to get everything, it /could/
possibly increase battery life on some machines, since the desktop
environment wouldn't be so hard-drive dependant. it could also be an
'optional' feture, for those computers that do not have enough ram to do
such things. however, if this problem is remedied, I will be a gnome
person from here on out.
