Public bug reported:

users should not have to enter arcane commands into the command line and
add entries to config files to get ubuntu working on intel macs. ubuntu
says that it "just works," but this is not the case on a mac.

either make ubuntu "just work" on a mac, or create a special version of
ubuntu for the macintel platform (alongside i386 and x64)

in other words, what should happen is either:

i pop in the ubuntu live cd on a mac and sound, wireless, compositing
etc "just works"

or

i go to the downloads page and it asks me "what kind of computer do you
have," and underneath it there should be Intel Mac i386 and Intel Mac
64-bit options added to the list.

this would be majorly awesome if you did this by the time intrepid is
shipped. after all, less and less people are getting a windows computer
nowadays, and more and more people are getting macbooks, imacs, etc.
this is something that needs to be done soon, like by the time intrepid
gets released. :)
