I forced it to redisplay using ISO8859-1. After that, I could not reproduce what I had seen.
So, Mr Sack, you can see it works exactly the opposite of what you said. Firefox failed without any "manual intervention". On the other hand, it needed a "manual intervention" to restore correct working.
