I discovered that in 2.6.24 that b43legacy did not connect to the rfkill
system at all. I have attached a tar file named new_b43legacy.tar. After
you download it, you should issue the following commands:

tar xvf new_b43legacy.tar
new_b43legacy/install.sh

These commands will load the new driver into your system. The second of
those will ask you for the password that is needed to do system-critical
work.

The changes are extensive, and we may have some oopses. If so, please
post them back here. Now, you should see messages like

b43legacy-phy1: Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED
b43legacy-phy1: Radio hardware status changed to ENABLED

when the switch is toggled.

In case of crashes, you can restore your old driver with the command

new_b43legacy/remove.sh
