I'd like to register the fact that I too have the same problem. I'm running a Dell Optiplex & trying to install the i386 version.
I've found loads of prblems on the Dell Optiplex's (theres been 7 go through my 'lucky' fingers. I know there are issues with USB (with KVM's) & Grub (lilo works, and I think i remember grub2 working - but it means you have to get online to install a working install) MD5 is good, have tried 2 CDrom's and 2 different 2G memory sticks.
