I had precisely the same issue with my Epson Perfection 3490 -- but with
a Twist. I recently had a short power outage (actually just a blown
circuit breaker). Because the computer did not power down properly, the
scanner was not sent a power-down signal, and I began getting the
"snapscan libusb invalid argument" error. Logging out and in, or
rebooting Linux, did not solve them problam.

It's a dual-boot machine, and booting into XP and back into Linux solved
the problem.

Does any one know whether there is a way to reset the scanner by sending
the power-down and power-up signals to the scanner using sane-utils or
some other Linux program?
