I get the point that the logs are difficult to get :) One option is for
those who have upgraded their installation to edgy and are experiencing
this bug: boot with another live cd (or another installed linux if you
have dual-boot) and fish out the logs from the edgy partition.
Christian, thanks for the log, I hope it is representative for the
original bug.

Another debug possibility for those familiar with the command line: boot
with "break=bottom" and disable X11 by removing the gdm startup script.
At least that will give us the xorg.conf as configured by the live
system. If now someone can install ssh at this point, and log in to the
computer while starting X11 manually that could be interesting. For
instance, run "sudo cat /proc/kmsg" in the ssh session, and then start X
from the console (or in a second ssh session).

grkravi, you seem to have a different card than ATI? Maybe you have a
different bug.
