Are there synaptics settings in /etc/xorg.conf in both cases, before and after adding the ClickFinger option? There are currently problems connected to using both xorg.conf and the fdi configuration in /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi. It would be good to be able to isolate the cause a bit further. In case both xorg.conf and 11-x11-synaptics.fdi were present in the test, I can recommend temporarily removing the fdi file and restarting hal, then redo the test.
