8.04 is a stable release, so "until the mono version in 8.04 is updated" would be never - and not via backports either, due to no upstream changes to major frameworks. If you can track down exactly which SVN revision fixed the bug, and that fix still can be applied against Ye Olde 1.2.6, then it may be possible to push a newer package with that patch included via hardy-updates.
