Is that the correct way to handle such a bug?
The bug obviously remains in kpdf.
The bug remains in hardy.
Hardy is still supported so I think this bug should be fixed in hardy and in 
kpdf?
If I should switch to okular, does that mean I also have to install kde4?

I do not think a bug should be fixed by switching to an other software.
Funny that in lauchpad you have to mark such a bug as "fixed" and there is no 
"won't fix" option which would be a lot more appropriate in this case.
