As a means to better illustrate the importance of this issue, and to
help suppliment this report with more information, I have dug these up
from the ubuntu forums:

As the first link says, most new HP pavillion models are shipped with
lightscribe drives. Mine came with this type of drive, and I am having
the same problem as mentioned above. With this many computers, and
potential Ubuntu users, having this problem, I recommend at least a
medium importance for this bug.

I am readily available at my e-mail address for any testing or further
information, plus I am willing to try anything. I'm not having any
trouble with my current installation, but this problem creates
difficulty in gleaning any useful information with dmesg, unless I run
it right when a problem occurs.
