When I tried to install php5-gd with command
 apt-get install php5-gd

I get following response -

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

php5 installed version:5.2.3-lubuntu6.4
machine: i686
