Hi, Pablo. Since this bug was reported a while ago, things have changed. Now I have a broadband connection which uses the ethernet card, and works perfectly. I don't have the old phone line anymore, so I can't test if the problem persists. I'm not very sure about this, but it seems to me that the bug was solved (perhaps it was a package problem) in more recent versions of Ubuntu. I am not sure and don't have proofs, though.
The machine is still using Ubuntu (8.04), so at least I can test if it responds to ATI commands if you want to.
