This is NOT resolved in the currently available Intrepid release.  I
just updated with "update-manager -d".  Pressing the eject button on the
UltraBase causes the exact same behavior that I've described above.  The
only difference I've noticed is w/ dmesg | grep bay:

I would be VERY happy to help test anything so that this is fixed before
Intrepid is released.
