Upstream developer on gnome bugzilla says it is a Ubuntu problem that
should be handled as such:

The UI library doesn't know which widgets you hide/remove/add, so while it's
possible to check for conflicts there you can never be sure whether it really
is a problem.

In this particular case, the touchpad tab doesn't even exist in the upstream
version. This is a Ubuntu problem.
