** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: casper

When I have used Gparted from a LiveCD of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 32 & 64 bit,
the hard drives are not listed in the correct, physically connected or
  BIOS listed order.

  Physical hd0/sda lists as hd2/sdc;
  Physical hd1/sdb lists as hd0/sda,
  Physical hd2/sdc lists as hd1/sdb.

It has not always been consistent and rarely correct. The above list has
been typical. It is how the 32 & 64 bit Hardy lists the drives
currently. This can be very confusing to lesser experienced users such
  as my self.

This has affected how grub is written.

It occurs from the LiveCD and in the installed programs.

+ A new Ubuntu install (09-28/2008) and hd0 is read as hd2 and the grub is
+ written as hd2. I must edit grub/menu.lst back to hd0 in order to boot
+ system into Ubuntu.
+
  Biostar TF560 A2+, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+; 2gb RAM
  250gb Hitatchi PATA (hd0), 40gb Western Digital Pata/adapter to SATA (hd1) &
160gb Hitatchi SATA (hd2)
