Hello, I have this same problem. I have Ubuntu 8.10 beta with latest updates. And this happened also in openSuse 11.0. The kernel is 2.6.27-4 if I remember correctly.
I have a desktop computer and the motherboard is the notorious Abit AB9 Pro. Ubuntu 8.10 beta is the first one work on that MB in my PC.
