Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 8.04.1 the keyboard indicator applet seems do not work for
real: in my laptop with a native italian keyboard layout i can switch to
the german layout (useful to write plenty of german words) but then,
pressing each key, i get a graphic carachter like "@ł€¶ŧ←" (that string
was the result of typing "qwerty"....) instead of the expected ones...

Furthermore, the LeftAlt+RightAlt key does not switch the layout as
would be expected: only by clicking with the mouse on the applet...

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
