I've been running into kvm issues in 8.04 a lot as well, so I decided I'd give the current 8.10 kernel a try. However, it seems like the compile instructions are for 8.10, at least I can't find makedumpfile on 8.04, and make-kpkg fails for linux_2.6.27-5.8.tar.gz as well.
