Thanks Chris for the prompt reply.  First time (after a reboot) I tried gksudo 
I didn't get the warning message.  Second time after closing and then reopening 
terminal I get the warning message (see attached).
I'm not too clear as to when I should use sudo and when gksudo.  Is there a 
document on this ?  I thought that gksudo was only required for graphics and up 
to now I've been using sudo for everything!!!
