Hardy loaded the floppy driver automatically. Upon upgrading (well,
installing a new Intrepid system from the amd64 DVD ISO), I am no longer
able to mount my floppy or use mtools on it without first running
"modprobe floppy". So, something _HAS_ indeed changed, and it needs to
be fixed; regular users who have no knowledge of Linux kernel modules
will not be able to use their floppy drives. Of the types of computer
users I know, there are still several that use floppy disks for various
purposes because that's what they know. This change effectively makes
it impossible for people to use their built-in floppy drives, and I
can't upgrade anyone in my family to Intrepid without being there to
modify configuration files for them (they can't even punch a hole in a
firewall, and I live 800 miles away).
