status confirmed affects ubuntu/module-init-tools affects ubuntu/udev affects ubuntu/linux-meta done Hardy loaded the floppy driver automatically. Upon upgrading (well, installing a new Intrepid system from the amd64 DVD ISO), I am no longer able to mount my floppy or use mtools on it without first running "modprobe floppy". So, something _HAS_ indeed changed, and it needs to be fixed; regular users who have no knowledge of Linux kernel modules will not be able to use their floppy drives. Of the types of computer users I know, there are still several that use floppy disks for various purposes because that's what they know. This change effectively makes it impossible for people to use their built-in floppy drives, and I can't upgrade anyone in my family to Intrepid without being there to modify configuration files for them (they can't even punch a hole in a firewall, and I live 800 miles away). ** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu) Status: Won't Fix => Confirmed ** Also affects: module-init-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- floppy module not loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278875 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
