I'm jumping into this a little late, but I'm running an up-to-date (as of time of writing) Kubuntu Intrepid beta and I'm seeing the same thing. When I try to connect to wireless, either thorough a new connection or one I already set up, it stays as a grey globe and doesn't even attempt to connect to the network. Think Pad T61p, Intel 4965AG. Was working last night, but after I shut down the next time it came up, I started seeing this problem.
